September 27 - October 4

Come spend a week wandering the markets, hill towns and ancient Roman sites in sunny Provence with culinary guide Madelaine Bullwinkel, owner of Chez Madelaine Cooking School since 1977 and leader of cooking tours to France since 1995.

Home for the week is Provence Paradise a beautifully restored farmstead in the charming town of St. Remy.  La Tuilerie, the largest house (and close to the pool) is tuned to our comfort level.  It’s not a surprise that owner William Moore is a midwest born and raised American.

During the week, day trips alternate with local forays around St. Remy.   L’Isle sur la Sorgue and the Luberon hill towns are Sunday destinations; Le Pont du Garde and Nimes  are on Tuesday’s agenda;  Saturday morning is spent exploring the Roman town of Glanum and the sanatorium where van Gogh spent his last year. Afternoon is  free to explore the treasure-trove of shops in St. Remy or swim in the pool.

Madelaine will teach a cooking class in La Tuilerie kitchen on Monday morning followed by a visit to Arles in the afternoon.  A second class on Wednesday afternoon takes advantage of ingredients from  the morning market in St. Remy.   On Thursday we travel to La Mirande in Avignon for a private cooking class in the hotel’s 18th century restored kitchen.  After lunch, Madelaine dons her art historian’s hat to show us around the Palais de Papes.

Plan now for next fall’s Provence Odyssey with Madelaine at Provence Paradise.  Space is limited to 6 persons, double occupancy only.
